A zoo is made up of many different animals from all over the world. The word "zoo" is short for zoological park. In nature, these animals have beneficial characteristics that help them live in their environment. In the past, zoos were more like museums and animals were kept in small display areas. In modern zoos, animals are given more space and exhibits are created to resemble their natural habitats. Most zoos create specialized habitats that recreate a specific animal's climate. For example a zoo in a cold climate, must recreate a warm, humid jungle environment for animals such as lemurs; which come from the island of Madagascar. So, how do zoos go about creating a habitat like this?
